Define and enforce API standards with governance groups in Postman

View as Markdown

The API Catalog’s governance groups feature is available with Postman Enterprise plans.

Governance groups in the API Catalog let you define and enforce API standards across your organization. You can build a shared library of rulesets and custom functions, then apply them to groups of APIs so that every team follows the same standards. Users with the API Governance Manager or the API Catalog Manager role can manage governance workflows, including creating and editing rulesets, custom functions, assigning rulesets, and creating governance groups.

From Home icon Home, click API Catalog, then select Governance Groups in the sidebar.

If you’re currently on the previous API governance experience and have the API Catalog Manager or API Governance Manager role, your team won’t see these features until you migrate to the new experience. Click Move to New Experience in the banner to migrate your team’s existing rulesets and functions to the new experience.

Postman’s governance groups offer the following features:

  • Ruleset Library — Governance rulesets and functions that define specific API standards. Rulesets are reusable sets of rules that you can apply to any API. Functions are custom checks you can write in JSON or YAML, then use Spectral to enforce standards.
  • Governance Groups — Governance groups let you apply your defined rulesets and functions to specific workspaces in your team. This ensures that APIs in those workspaces are automatically checked against the rules you set.
